Embracing a Growth Mindset
Growth mindset is a team capability, not just a personal one
A growth mindset is often framed as an individual trait — but its real power shows up in how a team handles effort, feedback, and setbacks together. Teams with a shared growth mindset treat mistakes as data, give and receive feedback without defensiveness, and keep improving under pressure. Teams stuck in a fixed mindset hide errors, avoid hard feedback, and stall the moment things get difficult.
This module builds that shared capability. Participants develop the mindset individually and, crucially, learn to model and reinforce it for one another — so growth becomes the team's default operating culture, not a poster on the wall.
What this module sets out to do
- Understand what mindset is — how a growth mindset differs from a fixed one, and why that shapes results for the whole team.
- Recognize your own mindset tendencies and the organizational impact of fixed vs. growth cultures.
- Build practical habits — the power of "yet," learning from feedback, and daily reflection — to develop a growth mindset over time.
By the end, participants will be able to
- Define mindset and explain how beliefs and attitudes drive behavior and results.
- Distinguish growth vs. fixed mindset across effort, feedback, challenge, and failure.
- Apply the "power of yet" and reframe "failing" as "learning."
- Use neuroplasticity as evidence that ability can be developed — the brain as a muscle.
- Build a personal 30-day growth-mindset action plan.
Three core sections
Understanding Mindset
What mindset is — beliefs, attitudes, values, and thoughts that lead our actions and results. Carol Dweck's definition, and the tale of two mindsets: where fixed and growth diverge on effort, feedback, and failure.
The Growth-Mindset Shift
The power of "yet," and what a growth mindset is — and is not. The science of neuroplasticity shows the brain works like a muscle that strengthens with use, making growth biologically possible at any starting point.
Developing It Daily
Six practices — embrace challenges, learn from mistakes, stay open to feedback, persist, seek support, practice gratitude — plus Choose, Words, Seeking, and Reflect. A growth mindset is a daily practice, not a one-time event.
How growth mindset scales across the team
Individual
Each member recognizes their own tendencies, adopts the "power of yet," and reframes failure as learning.
Team
The team builds shared norms — feedback as data, mistakes surfaced early, and support sought openly — so it improves together under pressure.
Organization
Growth-mindset habits compound into a culture where challenge, learning, and persistence become how the organization operates.
How the learning comes alive
Where Are You on the Continuum?
Place yourself on the fixed ↔ growth spectrum and discuss what pulls you each way — building honest self-awareness the team can share.
The Power of "Yet"
Rewrite a current "I can't do this" as "I can't do this yet," then name the very next step that moves you forward.
From Failing to Learning
Swap the language of failure for the language of learning, and practice receiving feedback as useful data — not judgment.
30-Day Action Planner
Choose your focus, bring "newness" into your week, reflect on your progress — and go again. Growth as a daily habit.
